Healing Arts And Cultural Awareness
Navigating Practices From Other Cultures Ethically and Mindfully
A cultural competency course
I made this class as a bit of a passion project because I believe that it is an important conversation for healing arts practitioners to have. The class focuses on cultural appropriation and modern colonialism in the healing arts and how to practice healing modalities that come from cultures not your own in a manner that is respectful and assists with the preservation of traditions rather than the dismantling of traditions that so often occurs when we adopt practices from elsewhere. It’s a class that I expect will be emotionally challenging for many people as it’s going to strongly question the way that we casually adopt these practices, but my hope is that it will help us to be more mindful in how we treat the gifts that come from other cultures and therefore assist in preserving and nourishing not only the traditions, but also our relationships with people from the cultures we sometimes make our livelihoods based off of.
