Healing Arts and Cultural Awareness
Interactive Self Guided Distance Course
Start at anytime
This is a self paced interactive class on navigating practicing a healing art modality that comes from a culture not your own ethically, mindfully, and with cultural competency, with an emphasis on giving back and avoiding destructive appropriation.
I offer this class free of charge or for dāna, that which is joyfully voluntarily given, because I believe it is an important subject that is often forgotten in the conversation about modalities such as Thai massage, Shiatsu, Lomi Lomi, and many others.
One More Note
I made this class as a bit of a passion project. The class focuses on cultural appropriation and modern colonialism in the healing arts and how to practice healing modalities that come from other cultures in a manner that is respectful and assists with the preservation of traditions rather than the dismantling of traditions that so often occurs when we adopt practices from elsewhere. It’s a class that I expect will be emotionally challenging for many people as it’s going to strongly question the way that we casually adopt these practices, but my hope is that it will help us to be more mindful in how we treat the gifts that come from other cultures and therefore assist in preserving and nourishing not only the traditions, but also our relationships with people from the cultures we sometimes make our livelihoods based off of.
