Beginning Pāli Pronunciation
The Wai Khru, Refuge and More
With Vārunī
July 30th & 31st
9 am to 11 am Pacific Standard Time
Chanting is a potent practice. The deeper we study Thai medicine, the more we use chanting as a way to stud, focus, and grow. Being non-native to the Theravada Traditions, it is necessary to put effort toward proper preservation, which means proper pronunciation during these practices. To chant well means we are honoring the teachings, the medicine, and Thai culture.
In these two short study sessions we will have an introduction to the Pali language in which we will discuss the pronunciation of the Wai Khru specific to our Traditional Thai Massage community. Taking visual cues from the typed words, instruction will be given on Pali phonetics, the accents, inflection, suspension, and tongue placement during speech. Our goal is to chant the Wai Khru and all subsequent incantations, invitations, initiations, blessings and practices with proper pronunciation for the efficacy and empowerment of our practices.
Our guest instructor, Vārunī, is a long time practitioner, student, and instructor of Thai healing arts in our tradition, with a special affinity for and knowledge of reusi da ton and Pāli chanting practices.

* Regarding the donations to environmental organizations.
Most people taking this class are healing arts practitioners, students, teachers. As such our goal is to promote health and well being and to mitigate suffering for as many lifeforms as possible. We cannot have health without a healthy planet/environment; and so it is the imperative of healing arts practitioners to also be stewards of the land, sea and sky. It is customary for someone who hosts a class to receive some portion, a cut of the tuition, to reciprocate for the efforts of the host and overhead. In this case my efforts and financial overhead are small, and so instead of incorporating a host fee into the cost of tuition, I added a donation fee for the environment and made my efforts my donation.
Much love to you and the creatures of land, sea, and sky,
